Personal Artifact Reflection

21st February 2020.

I wrote about how everyone has a precious or valuable thing in their life which they want to adore forever. I have my grandfather’s bat which was given to me when I was only 13 years old. My grandfather was my coach, my mentor, and the first person who ever taught me to play cricket with his bat. My grandfather got this bat from his father when he started playing on the local cricket team. And he gave it to me when I started playing cricket. He was the person who inspired me to play cricket. That cricket bat was my grandfather’s last symbol that has been with me since he passed away. I always carry it whenever I have to attend a match. My grandfather played cricket for so many years and that is how I got the inspiration for playing cricket. I love all kinds of sports but cricket attracts me differently. Writing this essay helped me to realize how I belong to a subculture of sports and how my artifact influences and reminds me of my grandfather. By writing my artifact I have learned many outcomes of my writings. For me a writing process includes, brainstorming, outlining, drafting, editing, and revision. When I am writing something, I try to reach the reader throughout my writing. One thing I have learned about writing is that it connects me with my audience so easily once I start adopting the topic I want to write about. The purpose of my essay was to explain to my readers that some people and the things they gave us are very important which cannot be replaced by anything or anyone no matter what. The potential audience is my teacher, my classmates who will read it. I have used (enhanced strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment). When I am writing something, I try to reach the reader throughout my writing. Brainstorming is the first process of writing. One strategy I always like to use is to do a group brainstorming or taking opinions from my classmates or my friends when it comes to the writing process. I think editing and revision is the most important part of my writing process because when I start writing I write so many unnecessary things or maybe repeat things more than once. Also, grammar, organization, and spelling are very common writing mistakes I make. Another writing outcome that helped me with my essay is to (develop and engage in the collaboration and social aspects of the writing process) which included a peer review process that helped me develop my writing process a lot. Reviewing our classmates’ papers and giving them feedback and getting feedback from them helped me with my writing. I get to know what I should be improving and what I am already good at. Also, I get to tell my opinion on their paper. I enjoyed writing this essay.
